As we begin the second month of the new year, you may start to feel a little sluggish. We all set goals and have things we want to get accomplished in 2017, but as time goes on we start to cave and give up on those goals.
One of the keys to accomplishing a to-do list or working towards your goals is organization. (Motivation and a plan are super helpful to, but you won't get there if you're not organized!) So, today I wanted to share 5 tips on keeping organized in your business and life!
Avoid Clutter: It's important to keep things tidy in your office and around the house. When you're done using something, put it away where it goes. When you fold the laundry, put it in your dresser. After you wash the dishes, dry them and store them away. It's best to get things done right away to avoid clutter!
Create a Routine: Having a routine can be so helpful with getting things done on time, keeping things clean, being consistent in the day-to-day. Aside from the generic "take trash out on Tuesdays" and "grocery shopping on Sundays," try to plan out the week and make a routine for yourself. It might seem a little redundant or boring, but it will help you manage your time better and figure out ways to keep things consistent!
Time Management: Set alarms for things. It will teach you to manage your time better! For instance, when you're cleaning the bathroom set a 25 minute timer. When you're writing a blog post or editing photos set an hour long timer. When you're getting ready to go to the gym, or meet a friend for lunch set a 30 minute timer. It will help you to keep moving and get things done in a timely manner, as well as limit distractions. When you're trying to get finished with a task before your timer goes off you'll be less inclined to sit on your phone or turn on the tv and be distracted. Keep in mind to give yourself a reasonable amount of time for each task! Once you get in the swing of things and learn how to manage your time, you don't need to worry about the alarms anymore because you'll be on top of things!
Accessories: Getting some organizational accessories isn't always necessary, but it can really help. Things like filing folders, a stapler or paper clips to keep all your important papers together, sticky notes and highlighters to keep things organized and make important parts easy to find, etc. are really helpful with organizing things in your office. A filing cabinet, set of baskets or bins, labeled shelves, and other larger receptacles can be great for storage or large items that aren't always out on display. A paper shredder or waste basket in the office can make for easy and quick ways to get rid of old documents or clutter, too!
Weekly Cleaning: I find for me that vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning the bathroom, dusting, and cleaning the kitchen once a week make me feel so at ease the rest of the week. Knowing that our home is clean can help me focus on other things at home, work, and with my goals. Usually I try to get things cleaned up over the weekend, and if I work straight through it will only take about 2 hours to clean and then I have the rest of the week to focus on goal-getting.
What about you? How do you stay organized? Is it through time management and keeping things clean or are you more of a paper clip and sticky notes type of person?
