Those of you who have any type of personal space know the struggle of finding that “perfect” balance of comfortable and stylish. The reason I put quotations around perfect is because I know, and you know, that we are never completely satisfied with our homes. Every once in a while, I will move furniture around, just because I’m bored with the arrangement. I think we can all attest to that.
When I first got married and moved in with my husband, I had the most fun configuring the apartment to fit both of our styles. My style is warm and vintage, with some notes of “grandma” in there. My husband is a little more modern and eccentric, which includes a good amount of portraits and band tour posters. So, while I enjoyed this transformation of our home, I didn’t feel completely satisfied when I looked around at the space. I thought that my love for and contentment with the space would come immediately. Come to find out, it is not that easy.
So over time, as I continued to collect pieces and assemble table-scapes and wall-scapes that I enjoyed, I came to understand that living in contentment is a process, not an immediate experience. Kind of like life!
A home is made up not of just one awesome piece that you adore, but of a collection of all the people, adventures, and art that you love. It is okay if it all doesn’t come at once. Keep collecting and re-defining your style. It may not be as much about the end goal as it is the process. So enjoy it while you can.
