I spent last summer hiking the Himalayas, living out of a backpack and eating with the locals. We rarely had showers, and we left our phones back in America. All of our regular comforts were long gone. It was a no-makeup, no-electricity, no mirror month. But it was the most freeing experience of my life.
Think of some of your favorite memories. Rock climbing with your friends, losing cell phone reception in the middle of a hike, people watching on the train, road tripping across country, reading books to each other. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is get away from the wifi and the social media and the constant tweeting, blinking, and vibrating.
The theme of August is rest. You can’t rest when your boss is calling and your twitter is blowing up and you’re worried about how your look.
There’s only a few more weeks of summer before school starts, your summer hours are over, and your vacation ends. This is the perfect time to rest and relax before you get back to your busy life.
So use one of your sick days.
Shut off your phone.
Loosen your tie.
Roll down the windows.
Take down your hair.
Host a barbeque.
Rest, recharge, explore.
Take that one last camping trip, spend a final day at the beach, host an End-of-Summer party, go on one last vacation, read one more book.
Get offline and get outside.
